Every great bit
deserves a producer.

Two founders in warehouse recording studio with single overhead microphone between them

Brooklyn, NY — 2019. The warehouse. One mic.

The Origin

It started as an
inside joke.

Marcus Webb and Denise Park were both doing open mics at the same Williamsburg bar — Marcus behind the soundboard, Denise on stage. After her set, she handed him a USB drive and said, "make it sound like I'm funny."

The result was a 22-minute set that sounded like a real special. She posted it. It got 40,000 plays in a week. By the following month, three other comics were asking Marcus the same favor. By the end of the year, the warehouse had a proper board, a beer fridge, and a name: Punchline.

"We didn't set out to build a company. We set out to make one comedian sound undeniable."
— Marcus Webb, Co-Founder

Sound engineer at mixing board with multiple screens showing waveforms in dark studio

Within six months, the roster had grown to twelve shows. The warehouse got a second room. The beer fridge got a lock — for the good stuff. Every episode was still mixed by hand, still shipped on deadline, still sounding like nothing else in the feed.
